Epiroc Works for a Healthier Future in Mining

To create a healthier working environment and meet demands for cleaner technology, Epiroc has created an entire suite of battery-powered vehicles, covering the process from bolting, face drilling, mucking and hauling.

“Contaminates can be eliminated altogether by replacing traditional diesel-powered equipment with battery electric machinery. Electric equipment contributes to a safer and healthier work environment for all underground operators and personnel,” said Sami Niiranen, president, Underground Rock Excavation division at Epiroc.

“To be a zero is the future in underground mining and tunneling. Battery-electric equipment allows a mine to unlock several benefits like improved health and safety, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and decreased operating costs. Emissions are troubling at the surface, but take them underground, and they quickly become critical. “As mines expand and deepen, ventilation needs increase and costs skyrocket,” said Franck Boudreault, product manager electrification, Underground Rock Excavation division at Epiroc. “Battery-electric machinery generates significant savings in ventilation along with a healthier workforce and a healthier planet.”

“Be a Zero” – the new zero-emission video from Epiroc premiered at Bauma Munich and can be watched on selected Epiroc social media channels.
