Feb. 13. 2024 – The Western Dredging Association (WEDA) recently issued a white paper, “How the Dredging Industry Contributes to Our Communities’ Resilience, Sustainability and Adaptation in Response to Climate Change,” based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developed in 2015. This white paper demonstrates the dredging industry’s contributions to worldwide sustainability challenges. The UN SDGs represent 17 global goals with 169 specific targets within those goals. They are a worldwide call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all people. Using the UN framework, the WEDA white paper asks: Which UN SDGs are most applicable to the dredging industry? What are WEDA and its members doing to advance these specific UN SDGs? The white paper gives examples within the relevant targets and shows what WEDA and its member companies are currently contributing.
