March 2, 2022 – According to Charley Rea at CalCIMA, the California State Transportation Agency recently expressed support for the federal National Supply Chain Report, which “highlights the need for strategic investments to upgrade and modernize our infrastructure to enhance capacity.” The state has committed $2.3 billion for freight transportation infrastructure and port upgrades. Also, Caltrans announced that it has adopted a new approach to safety on road and bridge construction called Safe System. The new policy will focus on reducing the most serious hazards and adding redundancy to safety systems. Lastly, it’s March and almost time for the Spring Thaw Safety Conferences. The first Thaw is March 16 in Sacramento and will include talks from Valero, Vulcan Materials, NIOSH, Stoel Rives LLP, Graniterock, Insight Safety Services, MSHA, National Ready Mixed Concrete, Sespe Consulting, CalOSHA, and Teichert Materials. There will be a second, and surprisingly later, Spring Thaw in Ontario, Calif., on April 12. Sign up here for either. For questions, contact Abi Hague at [email protected].
