Kentucky Quarry Moves Forward

A state permit allowing the mining of limestone at a proposed Simpson County, Ky., quarry has been issued, according to the Bowling Green Daily News. The Kentucky Department for Surface Mining of Reclamation and Enforcement’s Division of Field Services granted the permit to Drakes Creek Holding, a subsidiary of Charles DeWeese Construction.

The permit covers 106.1 acres the construction company owns along Ditmore Ford Road. DeWeese had sought to begin surface mining on a portion of the land for rock that would be used in road projects and agricultural lime.

With approval from the state body that inspects all mining permits in Kentucky, DeWeese has cleared an obstacle that has kept the company from converting acres of farmland into a quarry.
