Wake Stone Makes Its Point

Jan. 19, 2022 – Wake Stone Corp. CEO Samuel T. Bratton penned an opinion piece for the Raleigh, N.C.-based News & Observer that talks about the importance of the company’s Triangle Quarry expansion, which was granted by RDU Airport Authority. His piece comes after the Umstead Coalition’s Natalie Lew – who opposes the quarry expansion – wrote a Jan. 11 op-ed that distorted the facts of the situation. “We are excited about the future of our growing region, including Umstead State Park’s continued success,” Bratten said. “Economic growth and outdoor recreation are not mutually exclusive, but go hand-in-hand. This is a win-win solution for the community that delivers significant outdoor recreation and economic benefits for the entire Triangle region.” Wake Stone deserves credit for reaching out via the media to set the record straight. More quarries should emulate this kind of community outreach.
