The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) Promotion Committee presented the John Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award For Promotion to 42-year Ash Grove Cement Co. veteran Matt Wood, who has led the Kansas-based producer’s promotional activities at national and local levels.

In recent years, he has spearheaded the Utah Ready Mixed Concrete Association chartering and fostered development of the widely subscribed Concrete Day in Denver, a state capitol-centered event involving the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association, American Concrete Pavement Association and American Concrete Pipe Association.

As an early supporter of the sustainability movement, Wood was among the first in the concrete industry to attain LEED Accredited Professional certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. He has likewise chaired the NRMCA Sustainability Committee and Ready Mixed Concrete Research and Education Foundation, and was an MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub Steering Committee member. Throughout his career, NRMCA Promotion Committee members note, Wood has been a consensus builder who leads by example, “talking the talk” and “walking the walk.”

Named for a past NRMCA chairman who logged more than 50 years in ready mixed concrete, the John Roberts Award is given to professionals who over their careers demonstrate “outstanding leadership, dedication and achievement in support of concrete promotion and industry advancement.”

Congratulations Matt, you are a Rock Star.
