Dodge Momentum Index Increases in February
The Dodge Momentum Index climbed 0.5 percent in February to 126.1 (2000=100) from its revised January reading of 125.5. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.

The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced that construction spending during January 2016 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,140.8 billion, 1.5 percent (±1.0 percent) above the revised December estimate of $1,123.5 billion. The January figure is 10.4 percent (±1.6 percent) above the January 2015 estimate of $1,033.3 billion.
