Pennsylvania Quarry Plan Faces Opposition

Centre Twp., Pa., residents near a proposed limestone quarry expansion derided the plan, saying they have serious concerns about potential effects on ground water and their farms during a public comment hearing, according to Penn Live

Centre Stone and Lime Co. of State College, Pa., is proposing to expand the dormant quarry from the modest half an acre to 28 acres, encompassing most of the property at 600 Mannsville Road. The company filed for the large mining permit in June and is going through regulatory reviews and public comment periods, such as the one held on Oct. 27 in New Bloomfield. State Department of Environmental Protection officials said a decision on the permit is likely in early 2022.
