Tim Ryon recently joined R.W. Sidley, Thompson, Ohio, as the aggregates and mining operations manager. He has always had a passion for mining, and combined with his past experience with Quikrete, he is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in expanding aggregate sales.

He is originally from a small town outside of Scranton, Pa. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and earned a BA Degree in Geology.

Following graduation Ryon spent a short time in the oil fields out west including off-shore California and Alaska before joining Akzo Nobel Salt. Ryon started his mining career as an underground mine foreman at the Retsof Mine in New York. The Retsof Mine was the largest underground salt mine in North America where he became a third-generation miner. Ryon’s father and grandfather were both 40 year veterans of the company.

He then moved to the position of safety manager of the mine and received safety training certifications from both the National Safety Council in Chicago, and the MSHA office in Pittsburgh. In 1992, Ryon transferred to the Cleveland mine in the position of HR and Safety Manager. In 1997, Akzo Nobel Salt was acquired by Cargill Salt and Ryon moved back into the mine as the mine production superintendent.

In 1999, Ryon made a career change and joined the Quikrete Companies in Ravenna, Ohio, as plant manager. He served in that capacity for 16 years.

Ryon and his wife Christy reside in Chesterland, Ohio, and will soon be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. They currently have their fifth Golden Retriever and enjoy outdoor activities including golf, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and Tim’s favorite downhill skiing.
