Senators Propose $15 Billion to Address Highway Inequities
U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), along with Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.), introduced legislation to reconnect and revitalize areas that were harmed by the construction of the Interstate Highway System.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Midwest Region (Region 7) will accept diesel emissions reduction proposals requesting up to $1.5 million from eligible applicants in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. EPA anticipates awarding approximately $44 million across the country in Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) grant program funding to eligible applicants.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) awarded $10,537,000 in grant funding to support safety and health courses, and other programs. MSHA awarded grants to 46 states, the Navajo Nation, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
