Construction Spending Flat in January
Construction spending during January 2018 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,262.8 billion, nearly the same as (±1.0 percent) the revised December estimate of $1,262.7 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The January figure is 3.2 percent (±1.3 percent) above the January 2017 estimate of $1,223.5 billion.

The U.S. Census Bureau announced that construction spending during December 2017, was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,253.3 billion, 0.7 percent (±1.0 percent) above the revised November estimate of $1,245.1 billion.

Construction spending during October 2017 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,241.5 billion, 1.4 percent (±1.5 percent) above the revised September estimate of $1,224.6 billion, according to the The U.S. Census Bureau. The October figure is 2.9 percent (±1.6 percent) above the October 2016 estimate of $1,206.6 billion.

According to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) report, the private construction industry’s value added as a percentage of the nation’s real gross domestic product (GDP) rose to 4 percent in 2016, the highest level since 2009. The report also shows annual growth in real construction spending, which rose 3.5 percent in 2016.

The September figure is 0.2 percent (±1.8 percent) below the September 2015 estimate of $1,152.1 billion.
