Whirl/Wet is the industry’s “workhorse” dust collector. It was engineered for the continuous, reliable collection of particulate 3 microns and larger. For companies who need to collect airborne particulate from crushing, mixing, drilling, cutting, handling and packaging of aggregate material, Whirl/Wet is an efficient, field-proven alternative.
It has proven ideal for facilities that work with dimensional stone, face brick, glazed or recycled tile, and concrete. It has also proven ideal for the collection of overspray in tile glazing operations.
The Whirl/Wet design is distinctive in that it has no internal moving parts, (and no replacement components such as nozzles, bags or pumps) to wear or replace. It is self-cleaning and energy efficient. Power use is low and water use is limited to what’s necessary for start-up and replenishment following drag-out.
How Whirl/Wets Work
The dust collection system first infuses particles with water and processes them through a fixed-position, dual-opposed blade system. Once the dust-laden airstream and liquid are mixed, a tangential airstream is injected through the lower blade assembly to intensify turbulence.
Rotation is accelerated, droplets in the airstream are processed through a mist eliminator downstream, and particulate is deposited on the bottom of the unit for recovery or disposal.
3 Whirl/Wet Configuration
• Whirl/Wet Model MCD is manufactured in capacities of 500 to 50,000 cfm; it is unique in that it operates 24/7, with zero shutdown.
• Whirl/Wet Model H uses a timed drain-down control and can also operate continuously.
• Whirl/Wet Model M is Tri-Mer’s basic collector, a manual system that’s ideal for low dust loadings.
Systems are manufactured in the United States. to suit plant space requirements. Controls and sensors are tailored to the application and data needs of facility management.
Good for Workers – and Workplace
Ergonomically, the Whirl/Wet has no peer. Noise levels are typically 85-90 db or less at 5 ft. Whirl/Wet has, for some customers, eliminated the need for a monitoring program for long-term hearing loss.
The processing and handling of aggregate products generates a broad spectrum of particulate, including respirable dust. When it’s inhaled over an extended period, this dust, particularly when it contains respirable crystalline silica, becomes a serious health hazard. Whirl/Wet is highly efficient for the continuous collection of these dusts; as an added bonus, it’s also a most effective way of minimizing shop “housekeeping” and improving the workplace environment overall.
Note: The PEL for total dust is 15 mg/m³; respirable dust is 5 mg/m³ over an 8-hour shift.
