McLanahan Plant Shines at Blue Water Operation

McLanahan Corp. hosted its first Open Day event in the United States on March 6 at Blue Water Industries’ Cypress sand operation in Davenport, Fla. Rock Products Managing Editor Josephine Patterson was in attendance to tour the manufacturer’s custom wash plant.

McLanahan has worked closely on designing plants for a number of Blue Water’s sites. The design criteria for the Cypress plant was a 500-tph capacity, the ability to simultaneously produce three separate sand products, be fed with a dredge, and maximize recovery.

The plant, which was commissioned in 2021, consists of a hydrosizer, sand classifying tank, dewatering screens, cyclones and separators, and ultra sand plants. An identical setup was also installed at Blue Water Industries’ Lisbon sand operation in Leesburg, Fla. It came online several months after the Cypress plant. After installing the custom McLanahan wash plant, Blue Water was able to increase efficiency, productivity and profitability because of the system.

Speaking about the Open Day, Rick Madara, senior director of sales – North America, McLanahan, said, “I think something like this gives our customers an intimate look at some of the equipment that we’re putting out there.” Not only did the dealers and customers that attended Open Day toured the Cypress plant, they also learned more about sand washing and classifying, as well as water recycling and tailings management from McLanahan’s experts that were on site for the event.
