California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order “to suspend permitting and review requirements under CEQA and the California Coastal Act” due to the recent LA wildfires.
The suspension will allow homes and businesses to be built faster. In addition to the suspension, the executive order also protects against price gouging on building materials, construction and other similar products in Los Angeles County through Jan. 7, 2026, as well as identify other permitting requirements that can be suspended.
Newsom proposed that California provide $2.5 billion minimum for emergency response efforts for LA recovery, including cleanup, reopening schools and other ways to prepare for wildfires.
“As an industry with a history of caring for its community, we believe we must all come together to help those impacted during this time of crisis,” stated the California Construction and Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA). “You can do this by donating to the organizations on our webpage that help shelter, feed and clothe those who have lost everything.”
