NSSGA Honors Rep. Carbajal with ROCK Star Award

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.) as a ROCK Star Award winner at the annual NSSGA Legislative & Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., Sept. 24-27. He was honored with the award in recognition of his work championing aggregates industry policy issues on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.

“Rep. Carbajal’s friendship and leadership in Washington has proven invaluable to our industry,” said Michael Johnson, president and CEO of NSSGA. “He truly understands our members’ unique challenges and today we are proud to honor him with a ROCK Star Award.”

Rep. Carbajal is a member of the House Committee on Armed Services, Agriculture Committee and the Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Committee. The Congressman used his role as the Vice Chair on T&I to create jobs by securing investments in the nation’s infrastructure and rebuilding areas damaged by natural disasters.

During the 118th Congress, he contacted the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) about the industry’s Buy America exclusion to ensure it was correctly implemented. Due to his work, OMB was explicit about the exemption in its guidance. He also sent a letter to MSHA sharing our concerns about its new silica rule.

Additionally, Rep. Carbajal serves as the Democratic lead of the new Congressional Aggregates Caucus, which will provide an educational environment for members of Congress and their staff on aggregates industry challenges and policies.

The ROCK Star Award is given annually to members of Congress who go above and beyond for the aggregates industry. For more news on the Legislative & Policy Forum, please visit www.nssga.org.
