The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced the recipients of its Environmental Excellence Awards and the winner of the 2024 Environmental Leadership Award.
The Excellence Awards recognize operations that demonstrate a commitment to the exemplary use of environmental controls and systems. NSSGA recognized nine Gold, 10 Silver and 99 Bronze environmental winners during the first general session of its Legislative & Policy Forum, he;d Sept. 24-27 in Washington, D.C.
“NSSGA members take pride in responsible stewardship of the land, air and water,” said NSSGA President and CEO Michael Johnson. “Every winner deserves congratulations for their role in advancing the industry’s commitment to our environment.”
Additionally, John Richards of Air Control Techniques was named as the 2024 Environmental Leadership Winner. Richards founded Air Control Techniques in 1993 after 20 years of experience in engineering and air pollution control. His award recognizes his decades-long work to keep the industry out of onerous and expensive Title V permits, as well as his more recent efforts using EPA data to demonstrate the wide-ranging impacts of a reduced P.M. 10 standard. His work for NSSGA members has saved the aggregates industry substantial resources and provided the technical context for many NSSGA policy positions.
Cemex’s FEC Quarry was announced as the 2024 Environmental Platinum winner, which is the top-scoring gold. A complete listing of the 2024 Award winners can be found at nssga.org/awards.
