As part of the Department of Labor’s Good Jobs Summer tour, Acting Secretary Julie Su will travel to Franklin and Milwaukee, Wis., Aug. 14, to meet with union mine workers, leaders in the building trades, mine operators, contractors and workforce training experts and discuss the Biden-Harris administration’s continued efforts to bringing good jobs to the state.
In Franklin, Acting Secretary Su and Assistant Secretary for Mine Safety and Health Chris Williamson will visit an aggregates mine operated by Payne & Dolan, one of the state’s largest quarries, which supplies aggregates used in construction and infrastructure projects nationwide.
They will meet with members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 and, after a media availability, join quarry workers for a roundtable discussion on the importance of good jobs and how federal investments and policies are making a difference to mine workers and their families.
During the roundtable, participants will talk about how aggregate miners will benefit thanks to a $3.3 billion Microsoft Corp. investment, announced by the Biden-Harris administration in May 2024, to build an artificial intelligence data center in Racine. The facility will create thousands of jobs and increase demand for aggregate materials needed for its construction.
