A public hearing by South Carolina Department of Environmental Services on a proposed rock quarry for southwestern Edgefield County was a quick affair the night of Aug. 8 — only one person spoke, in favor of the operation, while seven others who’d initially signed up to speak forfeited their time with murmurs of concurrence with the one speaker.
Luck Stone is hoping to establish a crushed stone operation on nearly 430 acres off Woodlawn Road, at the Edgefield-McCormick county line.
