The City of Verona has sent a letter to the Town of Verona in opposition of an application for a proposed sand and gravel operation.
For the second time now, the City of Verona Common Council’s July 22 agenda included a discussion about a conditional use permit (CUP) application that was recently filed with Dane County for a Wildcat Sand and Gravel Pit in the Town of Verona.
Town of Verona Board Chair Mark Geller said the first discussion of the application will occur at the town’s plan commission meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. Conditional uses are specified uses of property that may be allowed in a particular zoning district if certain standards are met.
Geller said the Town of Verona is one of 26 out of 32 total towns that utilize Dane County zoning. The applicant’s property is currently zoned as Agriculture Transition, which allows non-metallic mining as a conditional use.
Mineral extraction is also identified as a permissible land use within specific zoning districts per the town’s comprehensive plan, Geller said.
