D.M. Conner Sand & Gravel Company, a Stuarts Draft producer of hard rock concrete sand, was granted an Augusta County special use permit Wednesday to mine an additional 35 acres of property the family business owns on Oak Lane.
Co-owner and operations manager Benny Conner said that without the special use permit, the 66-year-old company might have ceased business by the end of 2024. The Augusta County Board of Zoning Appeals granted the new permit.
