The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) recently convened its 2024 Annual Young Leaders Meeting in San Antonio. The event was attended by Rock Products’ prevailing Young Leader, Managing Editor Josephine Patterson.
Along with keynotes from industry leaders, the meeting included educational breakout sessions on various topics, such as environmental permitting and drone utilization. The general session featured discussions with retired fighter pilot Robert “Cujo” Teschner and Dr. Richard Szecsy of Alamo Concrete Products.
Meeting attendees also toured a Vulcan facility, competed in the annual golf tournament and shot sporting clays. As part of the Young Leaders’ commitment to community involvement, attendees volunteered their time for two service projects benefiting the Children’s Hunger Fund and San Antonio Food Bank.
The Mark S. Walsh Award, sponsored by Rock Products, was presented by Patterson to Jordan Russell of Belt Tech Industrial at the event. This award is given to an aggregates industry member who embodies these qualities through their career and involvement with Young Leaders. It is named for the late Mark S. Walsh, who was comptroller of National Stone Association producer member Rein, Shultz and Dahl of Illinois. He was an energetic and enthusiastic supporter of the mission, purpose and activities of Young Leaders and an active member of the Young Leaders Steering Committee.
Rock Products is proud to be a major sponsor of NSSGA’s Young Leaders group. In addition to the sponsoring the Mark S. Walsh Award, we sponsor the Young Leaders Luncheon at AGG1.
I have said it before and I will say it again: The Young Leaders are the future of the aggregates industry, and we take a special interest in what this group has to say, what it does and how it will lead the industry into the next generation.
We are not done with our involvement in the area of young leaders. Look for a special announcement in the coming months.
The next NSSGA Young Leaders meeting will be held April 26–May 1, 2025, in Savannah, Ga. Rock Products will be there for sure.
