Charlie Luck Receives 2023 Barry K. Wendt Commitment Award

At the start of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) Annual Membership and Board Meeting in Las Vegas, the 2023 Barry K. Wendt Commitment Award was presented to Charlie Luck of Luck Companies.

“Throughout the industry, Charlie Luck is widely known for encouraging the advancement and bettering the aggregates industry,” said NSSGA President and CEO Michael Johnson. “His industry expertise and drive to help individuals succeed showcases he is an outstanding representation of the Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award.”

In his final duty as the 2022 Manufacturers & Services Division Chair, Josh Swank, Philippi-Hagenbuch presented the award to Luck. The NSSGA’s Manufacturers and Services Division established the award in 1998 to annually recognize an individual in the industry who exhibits the dedication exemplified by Barry Wendt, both in commitment to the industry and the community in which they live. This award is the most distinguished individual award presented by the NSSGA.

“To me, this recognition is an opportunity to propel what Barry Wendt was known for: his leadership and his encouragement of others to learn the ropes and take the wheel, as his daughter Kristi so eloquently described in a letter she wrote. The NSSGA enables each of us to deepen our commitment to our industry and the communities we serve by consistently illuminating opportunities for us to get involved in areas that align with our passions and skillsets,” said Charlie Luck. “Like my grandfather, father and Barry Wendt, I believe that when we nurture people’s talents and present them with learning and growth opportunities, they can exceed their wildest dreams and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.”
