Four Quarries to Provide Massive Amounts of Stone for New Canadian Battery Plant

A new $4.9-billion electric-vehicle battery plant near Windsor, Ontario, Canada, will require more than a million tonnes of crushed stone by the end of the year, according to the CBC.

Steve Salmons, the CEO of the Windsor Port Authority, told Rock Products the aggregate is being shipped to the site through the Great Lakes from four quarries, one in Michigan, one in Ohio and two in northern Ontario.

The quarries are:

  • Meldrum Bay – Meldrum Bay, Ontario.
  • Smelter Bay Aggregates – Thessalon, Ontario.
  • Presque Isle Quarry, Presque Isle, Mich.
  • Lafarge North America Marblehead Plant – Marblehead, Ohio.
