Shelby Materials’ Request Moves Forward

Shelby Gravel Inc. took the first step in its long-term plan to relocate within the county during a recent Shelby County, Ind., Plan Commission meeting, according to the Shelbyville News.

The company, which has been in operation since 1951 and is now known as Shelby Materials, bought land in 1999 that it intended to eventually use as a sand and gravel mine. That property, located in southwestern Shelby County on the southwest corner of Interstate 65 and West 1000 South in Jackson Township, is a little more than 254 acres.

The company requested a rezoning of the property from A1 (Conservation Agricultural) to HI (High Impact) District, a request that was approved by a 6-0 vote by the Plan Commission.
