Lehigh Hanson Subsidiary Cadman Solidifies Two Major Oregon Projects

Lehigh Hanson subsidiary Cadman Inc. is a leading supplier of building materials in the Pacific Northwest. For more than 80 years, Cadman has provided sand, gravel, ready mixed concrete, asphalt, and building materials to projects shaping the dynamic West Coast landscape.

While well-known across most of the Pacific Northwest concrete market, Cadman and its unique mixing trucks featuring “Otis the Bulldog” may be a newer sight for Portlanders. The company expanded into the Oregon and southwest Washington territory in 2017.

While new to the community, Cadman is not new to major concrete projects that shape the West Coast’s stunning skylines. A commitment to service and quality has already earned them two of the largest projects underway in Downtown Portland – Block 216 and Eleven West.

Located only two blocks from one another, Eleven West and Block 216 represent two of the most dynamic shifts in landscape for the Portland community. Eleven West, a 24-story building will feature retail and office space, as well as 222 residential units. Block 216, a 35-story tower will include retail, event and office space, 138 condominiums, and a 251-room luxury hotel. When finished, the newly constructed building will be the fifth tallest building in Portland, and the largest building constructed in the area since the U.S. Bancorp Tower was completed in 1983. A combined total of 85,000 cu. yd. of ready mixed concrete will be supplied by Cadman between the two projects.

“This project could be a logistical nightmare for some,” said Joe Sheehy, Cadman area sales manager. “These are two major jobs that are running simultaneously and require large-scale planning, staffing and materials. Between our four concrete sites, three aggregate production sites, two aggregate depots, and extensive fleet of trucks, we are well-equipped and ready to handle the extensive concrete needs that are anticipated.”

Founded in Redmond, Wash., by Horace Cadman in 1936, the company now operates out of 25 locations from Bellingham, Wash., to Portland, Ore.

“We are proud to be an industry leader in building supplies for this beautiful and complex part of the country,” said Sheehy. “We are thrilled to continue our tradition of local excellence as we work to revitalize the downtown core of Portland, and create the future of our city,” Sheehy said.
