This Week’s Market Buzz

•    Oil prices were falling at press time, with the price of West Texas Intermediate declining more than 6% as OPEC’s production increased in September over August. West Texas Intermediate was $37.79 while Brent dropped 5.22% to $40.09.

•    Wisconsin Proppants celebrated 1,000 days without a reportable or lost-time injury. “Congratulations to the team at our Kermit mine site for building an award-winning safety culture, and for continually making sure that everyone goes home the way they came to work,” the company stated. “Our Kermit facility produces two mesh types of regional sand with the most sophisticated equipment and process to make sure high-quality sand is delivered.” The site is located in Winkler County, Texas.

•    A patent lawsuit against Sand Revolution LLC will go forward in a West Texas federal court after the Federal Circuit refused to order a pause for a patent office validity review. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denied a petition for a writ of mandamus from Sand challenging U.S. District Judge Alan Albright’s decision not to put the lawsuit on hold after the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) agreed to review Continental Intermodal Group-Trucking LLC’s patent. Unlike some district court judges, Albright has been reluctant to pause lawsuits while the PTAB reviews a patent.
