My Top 10 List

This is our ConExpo-Con/Agg issue, and in honor of my 10th ConExpo-Con/Agg show, I thought I would put together a list of my top 10 favorite things about the “Greatest Show on Earth.”

The Spectacle. Without a doubt, ConExpo-Con/Agg is a spectacle. The sheer size of the event is awe-inspiring. Not as big as bauma, but this North American behemoth is something to behold.

Education. There is so much to learn at the show. Whether it is visiting exhibits or attending the educational sessions, you always come away with greater wisdom from this event.

Exhibits. Some of the booth space taken by the larger companies and heavy iron manufacturers is the size of a small city. Many spare no expense to show off their equipment. It is always something to marvel at.

Equipment and Technology. Over the years, equipment and technology have taken a quantum leap. It is all on display at ConExpo-Con/Agg. You can see the future in place right in front of you.

International Attendance. It’s not just a North American show. Attendees from all over the world will descend on Las Vegas for the event. The diversity that is manifest on the show floor is amazing.

NSSGA Convention. Having our industry’s main association convention bolted onto the show makes it easy to take care of business, interface with aggregates producers and provide a forum to continue our relationship with NSSGA’s Young Leaders group.

The Weather. When you come from the Northeastern part of the Midwest, the beginning of March is the exact time when you are officially totally sick of winter. The weather in Las Vegas is usually a nice reprieve and a signal that spring is right around the corner.

Old and New Friends. It is always nice to see old friends and make a few new ones along the way.

Las Vegas. If you are like me, you have a love/hate relationship with Las Vegas. I am not a gambler, but I do enjoy the gaudy visceral experience of the city, especially at night, even if I do dislike the crowds and the expense.

As the city’s new slogan states, “What happens here, only happens here.” That sums up ConExpo-Con/Agg. If you are going, I hope you enjoy the show.
