Illinois Central College (ICC) recently achieved AED Foundation accreditation for its Diesel Powerred Equipment Technology (DPET) A.A.S. degree program. Through this accreditation, current and prospective students know that the program provides the best in diesel-equipment technical education as defined by the industry it serves.

“The Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Program at Illinois Central College is proud to be affiliated with The AED Foundation,” said Jeff Gardner, DPET program chair. “Having the ability to easily evaluate and compare our program to others in the nation is extremely important to the staff here at ICC. Our number one goal is that our students graduate with the knowledge and skills required to exceed employer expectations. AED Foundation accreditation and the relationships formed within it will aid us in staying on the cutting edge of technology, ensuring our students will be ready to take advantage of the opportunities ahead of them.”

ICC has been offering educational opportunities to students since 1967. The two-year DPET program trains students to service, repair and diagnose diesel powered equipment like agricultural machinery, tractors, on-highway trucks, bulldozers, road graders, combines, loaders and more. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on experience. The lab is equipped with the latest electronic test equipment to help students diagnose problems. Students are required to complete two paid internships during their sophomore year at a dealership that services diesel powered equipment. Upon completion of this program, students are ready to enter the workforce or continue their education by transferring to a four-year college or university.
