March 8, 2019 – To mark International Women’s Day, Volvo Construction Equipment President Melker Jernberg highlighted the importance of having a diverse workforce as a major contributor to the company’s success. He has also challenged all employees to help the company exceed its commitment of having 25 percent female leaders by 2025. The aggregates industry, which is heavily male-centric, is not without its female leaders. Look no further than Katie Jeremiah, CEO of Aggregate Resource Industries Inc., or President of Mack Industries Betsy Mack Nespeca. And of note is The Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association’s Women Leaders in Mining and Aggregates group, which produces a series of workshops designed to provide the tools and foundation for career advancement in the aggregates industry. On the manufacturing side, you can find Mary Erholtz at Superior Industries, Susanne Cobey at Eagle Crusher or Jennifer Hise at Cemco leading their companies. I was having a conversation with an aggregates producer once who told me he was going to hire more female truck drivers. They take much better care of the equipment and are more efficient than guys, he said. Let’s hear it for women on International Women’s Day. And check out this piece from Firmatek.
