This Week’s Market Buzz

• Oil prices are at three-year highs, as geopolitical risk and confidence in global growth continued to buoy markets. Light, sweet crude for February delivery rose $1.23, or 2 percent, to $62.96 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest settle value since December 2014. Brent, the global benchmark, also closed at a three-year high, up $1.04, or 1.5 percent, to $68.82 a barrel.

• The Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association (WISA) is offering a Technical Seminar and Membership Meeting Feb. 8, 2018, at the Holiday Inn Eau Claire South, 4751 Owen Ayers Court, Eau Claire, Wis. • U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. announced the promotion of Billy Ray Smith to senior vice president and president, Oil & Gas Proppants, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Smith succeeds Don D. Weinheimer, who will be retiring but will stay on for an interim period to support the transition as vice president of strategic marketing. Smith will join the company’s executive management team and report to Brad Casper, executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
