The Missouri University of Science & Technology student chapter of the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) provides hands-on learning opportunities, networking events and fellowship to its members. Led by faculty advisor Greg Galecki, Ph.D, members of this student chapter recently took a field trip to Conco Quarries in Willard, Mo., and Springfield Underground in Springfield, Mo.
The student chapter at Missouri S&T is open to any student interested in a career in aggregates, and members are able to earn scholarships, gain access to NSSGA’s exclusive educational resources and attend on-campus social events. Students also receive the national recognition that comes with being affiliated with the leading voice and advocate for the aggregates industry.
As the aggregates industry grows, so will its need for new leaders. A recent study estimates the aggregates industry contributes $27 billion to the U.S. economy and employs over 100,000 skilled workers – and this number is expected to increase in the next few years. Through its student chapter program, NSSGA is doing its part to help ensure that a new generation of qualified, dedicated professionals is ready to meet this demand.
