Cheesman Named OSSGA Executive Director

The board of directors of the Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (OSSGA) announced the appointment of Norman Cheesman as executive director.

Cheesman brings more than 30 years of experience to OSSGA as a successful lobbyist, media spokesperson, consensus builder and association management executive. His past accomplishments include the successful navigation of complex issues through municipal, provincial and federal legislative and regulatory frameworks.

As CEO of the Ontario Public Transit Association, Cheesman managed and directed all aspects of a province-wide trade association including advocacy, member meetings, strategic planning, conference planning, board governance and financial oversight.

Previous positions include senior management roles with the Canadian Security Association, where he led a national association of more than 800 members, a $1 million budget and a team of eight staff members; the Information Technology Association of Canada; and GS1 Canada, where he was instrumental in leading a diverse industry-government coalition of stakeholders toward the development of a new standard.

As a volunteer, Cheesman was co-founder and is a past-president of the Public Affairs Association of Canada. He currently enjoys serving as a volunteer school tutor through the Pathways to Education program in Regent Park.

Cheesman holds a BA from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
