One Quarry Targeted in May Impact Inspections

The Mine Safety and Health Administration announced that federal inspectors issued 89 citations during special impact inspections conducted at 13 coal mines and one metal and nonmetal mine in May.

MSHA conducted special impact inspections at mines in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.

Monthly impact inspections began in force in April 2010 at mines that merit increased agency attention and enforcement due to their poor compliance history or particular compliance concerns. Since then, MSHA inspectors have conducted 1,156 impact inspections and issued 16,315 citations, 1,313 orders and 60 safeguards.

One quarry operation was listed on the May report, Haines & Kibblehouse’s Birdsboro Materials site in Pennsylvania, which was hit with 19 citations: 10 S&S violations and 9 non-S&S violations.
