“Three years ago NSSGA asked the members what was important to them, and out of that came the Rocks Build America strategic plan. It has helped to guide this association well since 2014, and my goal this year is to continue that progress,” said Williford. “I am eager to look for ways to improve every aspect of NSSGA to better serve our industry.

Williford has been president of Memphis Stone and Gravel since 2003. A locally owned and operated aggregate supplier to Memphis and North Mississippi, it has been in business since 1910. The company has earned a reputation for supplying outstanding construction materials and works to protect the lands on which it mines and restoring resources to productive and beautiful uses after mining.

In the coming year, Williford would also like to see a focus on growing NSSGA membership among small and medium producers. Not only are these companies vital to grassroots advocacy efforts, he said, but they comprise the bulk of our industry and should have a say in the direction of this industry.

“I encourage every operation, regardless of size, to fine your niche in our national association. There are many opportunities to use your knowledge and talents in NSSGA and there are ample opportunities for individuals to participate, now more than ever,” he said.

NSSGA President and CEO Michael W. Johnson congratulated Williford on becoming chair and saluted the accomplishments of immediate past-chair Charles S. Luck, IV. “Hal has been a true leader of the aggregates industry and really understands the needs of our members, large and small,” he said. “It has been a pleasure to work with Charlie, who brought valued-based leadership to our association. A multi-year highway funding bill became law, and our Annual Convention and AGG1 Academy & Expo broke attendance records. We are excited to build on those successes in the year ahead with Hal at the helm.”

Williford began his career as a quality control technician at Lehman-Roberts Co. in 1985 and worked up to manager of materials and quality control by 1990. He was named vice president of Lehman-Roberts Co. & Memphis Stone and Gravel Co. seven years later. He continues to be an active leader in the aggregates industry and has served on the boards of both companies as well as the Associated General Contractors of West Tennessee and Tennessee Infrastructure Alliance. Williford served as president of the Tennessee Road Builders Association in 2009, chaired the NSSGA Government Affairs Committee from 2008 to 2010 and is a member of NSSGA’s Executive Committee and a ROCKPAC trustee.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tenn., Williford is an alumnus of the University of Memphis and has been married to his wife Tina for 30 years and has two boys, Blake and Brandon.
