The aggregates industry is mourning the loss of Robert G. Bartlett, former president and CEO of the National Stone Association.
Bartlett was living in Hilton Head Island, S.C., where he passed away from a sudden stroke at home. According to his obituary, “he was at peace, passed with dignity and his loving family at his side.”
Born Nov. 12, 1931, to Theodore and Marjorie Bartlett of Oceanside, N.Y., he attended and was graduated in 1953 from the United States Military Academy (USMA, West Point) with a BS in Engineering and commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Korea and had various postings in the United States until retiring from active duty as a Captain in 1957.
He worked as an engineer and labor relations specialist with Bethlehem Steel Co., was the Pennsylvania Secretary of Highways and member of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and was executive vice president of L. B. Smith Inc. in Camp Hill, Pa.
His last management role was as president and CEO of the National Stone Association, now the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association.
