Donaldson Offers Reservoir Air Dryer

45 Donaldson 250Clean Fuel & Lubricant Solutions, a business unit within Donaldson Co. Inc., recently introduced its Reservoir Air Dryer for fluid tanks and reservoirs. The new product is designed to eliminate the need to continually replace conventional desiccant breathers or to dry fluids with vacuum dehydration units.

Water in fluid tanks can cause major problems: corrosion, pump cavitation, viscosity changes, additive dropout, oxidation and a host of other major system issues. The Donaldson Reservoir Air Dryer offers a solution to curb the damaging effects of moisture by dehydrating the reservoir headspace and removing dissolved moisture from exposed oils and fuels.

The Reservoir Air Dryer combats moisture by introducing a steady flow of clean, dry air into tanks and reservoirs. The airflow keeps humidity relatively low in the headspace, pulling moisture from the fluids and preventing condensation.

Installation is easy and takes relatively little time. “Installation of the Reservoir Air Dryer involves no electrical hook-ups,” said Scott Grossbauer, global director – Donaldson Clean Fuel & Lubricant Solutions. “You simply connect compressed air to the inlet of the unit and plumb into the headspace of the tank or reservoir.”

Donaldson Reservoir Air Dryer benefits:

  • Operates with standard plant air – instrument-quality air is not required.
  • Collects oil and water droplets, as well as fine particles present in inlet air.
  • Drains automatically – purges captured liquid without any required intervention.
  • Monitors filter condition continuously via a visual indicator.
  • Reduces plant air dew point.
  • Ensures low pressure and flow of air into the tank or reservoir via a pressure regulator.

Donaldson also reminds users not to forget the Thermally Reactive Advanced Protection (T.R.A.P.) Breather. When the Donaldson Reservoir Air Dryer is combined with a T.R.A.P. Breather, the complete system keeps moisture and contamination out, even when the fluid-flow rate outside of the tank surpasses the dryer-flow rate into the tank. The Reservoir Air Dryer also regenerates, or dries out, the T.R.A.P. Breather, increasing filter life and reducing total cost of ownership, according to Donaldson.
