CalCIMA Announces Member Awards

The California Construction & Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) announced the recipients of its annual Member Recognition Awards.

“The awards honor members for outstanding initiatives and service to the industry,” said Gary Hambly, president and CEO of CalCIMA. “Each recipient has gone extra lengths to help the association achieve policy objectives for the betterment of the aggregate, ready mixed concrete, and industrial mineral industries.”

The President’s Award was given to Mike Herges, manager of safety and health services with Graniterock in Watsonville,and Terry Tyson, regional safety and health manager with Lehigh Hanson in San Diego, for leadership of CalCIMA’s Safety and Health Committee, developing truck safety training materials, and developing relationships with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

CalCIMA’s Spirit of the Industry Award was presented to Bradley Johnson, an attorney with Harrison Temblador, Hungerford and Johnson in Sacramento, for tireless review and input regarding legislation on California’s surface mining law.

Charlie Wensley, president of Builders Concrete/Viking Ready Mix in Fresno, was presented the Benjamin J. Licari Distinguished Member Award for a lifetime of service to the industry. Wensley has excelled in legislative affairs for the industry, including frequent testimony at legislative hearings and being a recognized expert on the industry with legislators.

The annual Associate Member Award went to Scott Cohen, PE, CIH, project manager III with Sespe Consulting Inc. in San Diego, for his research and presentations to assist the workings of CalCIMA’s Environment and Natural Resources and Safety and Health Committees on issues including storm water, air quality and workplace monitoring.
