  • The Winona, Minn., city council decided against requiring air-quality monitoring at frac sand facilities in the city, according to the Winona Post. Instead of requiring monitoring equipment, city leaders decided to focus on creating new dust management rules – requirements that loading facilities be enclosed, for example – and on better enforcement of the rules the city already has. Citizen groups have been pushing the city council to require air-quality monitoring at the fence line of frac sand facilities in Winona since 2013.

  • Select Sands Corp. has hired Carl Buchanan as an industrial sales specialist. Buchanan entered into a consulting agreement to act as the company’s senior sales consultant responsible for generating sales of the company’s products primarily in the industrial space as well as the oil and gas sectors. Previously, Buchanan worked as a regional manager for US Silica for more than 16 years. “I am very excited to be joining the Select Sands team and becoming a key part of its building process,” said Buchanan. “The Sandtown deposit has very high-quality characteristics that I believe will be in very strong demand and command a high value in the growing industrial market.”
  • Victory Nickel appointed Steven Cresswell as chief financial officer, effective Nov. 13, 2015. Prior to his appointment, René Galipeau, vice-chairman and CEO, was the Acting CFO of the company. Cresswell is a CPA,GGA who for the past 20 years has served in a variety of financial capacities with Canadian and international companies primarily in the natural resources sector. Over the past several years he has consulted to companies in the mining and solar power industries. Between 2011 and 2013 he was CFO for nickel producer First Nickel Inc., and previously was CFO of Tiberon Minerals PTE, a Singaporean resource company that was constructing a $400+ million tungsten/fluorspar mine in Northern Vietnam. “Steve brings a variety of financial experience with both operating companies and mine developers which will be extremely valuable as Victory Nickel moves forward, and we are very pleased he has joined the management group,” said Galipeau.
