  • Now that the price of oil has dropped by 50 percent or more – down to $45 a barrel on Sept. 18 – frac sand production in Wisconsin also has dropped by 50 percent, according to a report on Wisconsin Public Radio.

  • Pending a 10-day public notice process and approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the development permit for the construction of a frac sand cold-storage and transload facility in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada, received preliminary approval by the city council on Sept. 14.
  • Heavy rains breached a holding pond at a frac sand mining facility in Barron County, Wis. The mining and processing facility owned by Source Energy near the city of Cameron is under investigation after reports of sediment leaking into a nearby creek, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
