Transload Facility Targets Dust Control

DustPRO LLC has installed its first DustPRO Application Unit in the Northeast region at a transload facility operated by Matriculated Services, LLC. The first-of-its-kind DustPRO Application Unit was seamlessly integrated with existing site operations at the Morgantown Industrial Park in Morgantown, W.Va., and the first job coated 5,000 tons of sand to reduce airborne particles and crystalline silica exposure at sand transfer points.

Industrial hygiene results from the first job indicate that 100 percent of the six area and four personal samples at the well site fell significantly below the Occupational Health and Safety Association’s (OSHA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PELs) of 100 μg/m3. The average DustPRO sample was 7 μg/m3, which is approximately 93 percent less than the current OSHA PEL.

“When we first brought DustPRO to market in 2014, we did so with the goal of creating a safer work environment at the well site,” said Marc McQuesten, vice president of DustPRO. “Bringing a DustPRO Application Unit to West Virginia allows us to deliver DustPRO treated sand throughout the southern Appalachian region, and we are thrilled with the results that came from the first job out of Matriculated’s site in Morgantown.”

Based in the Morgantown Industrial Park, Matriculated’s facility is served by a private rail spur and is barge capable via the Monongahela River. The facility has more than 20,000 tons of flat storage capacity with expansion plans underway.

“At Matriculated Services, LLC, our mission is to move frac sand in the most efficient and quality controlled manner, which requires the implementation of state-of-the-art technology that only DustPRO LLC can provide,” said David M. Sutherland, president of Matriculated Services LLC. “We take pride in our clean and environmentally friendly operations and this product and application unit successfully addresses air quality concerns and the health of our workers. We have been extremely pleased with the results thus far.”

DustPRO Application Units are being made available to all sand suppliers, terminal operators, service companies and E&Ps across North America. DustPRO expects to have an Application Unit installed in the Northern Appalachian region in Q3 2015 to reduce airborne particles and crystalline silica exposure for oil and gas workers throughout the Marcellus/Utica shale play.
