The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced a new level of membership for single-location operations with fewer than 10 non-office staff.
Initial research shows that there are thousands of single stone, sand and gravel operations across the United States that are not active in either their state or national aggregates association.
The goals of this new membership level are to grow membership rolls and strengthen the association’s ability to influence federal policy and to build a stronger and safer industry.
“With greater resources and numbers, NSSGA can do much more to impact the upcoming debate over the soon-to-expire highway trust fund patch and some of the onerous regulations that threaten the industry,” said Alan Parks, vice president, Memphis Stone and Gravel Co., and chairman of NSSGA’s Membership Committee.
He added that now is a particularly important time for small operations to join the association since several federal proposals, like the Waters of the U.S. rule, could be finalized very soon.
“The Waters of the U.S. rule will be burdensome for larger companies, but a business killer to smaller operations. Every producer in our industry should join NSSGA, now, to oppose this oppressive rule,” Parks urged.
NSSGA’s “eProducer” membership is offered at a rate of $325, less than one dollar per day annually. To qualify, a company must operate a single facility located in the United States, have fewer than 10 non-office staff and not have been a NSSGA member within the past two years. This category does not entitle the company to vote or the opportunity to serve in a leadership role. Producers interested in full membership benefits must apply and join as a regular producer member with minimum dues starting at $1,000.
“eProducer” member benefits include:

Growing membership and strengthening federal advocacy are two key components of NSSGA’s Rocks Build America strategic plan.
“A strong and diverse NSSGA will more effectively advance a pro-aggregates agenda to better serve the whole industry,” Parks added.
