Summit Materials Acquires Aggregates, Ready-Mix Operations

Summit Materials has announced another round of acquisitions. The company acquired Southwest Ready-Mix, a ready-mix concrete company in southwest Houston; Colorado County Sand & Gravel, an aggregates company in Colorado County, Texas; and Concrete Supply of Topeka/Builders Choice ConcreteColorado County Sand & Gravel, an aggregates and ready-mix concrete company based in Topeka, Kan.

In September, the company acquired Mainland Sand and Gravel, a supplier of construction aggregates to the Vancouver and Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada.

Southwest Ready-Mix will become part of Alleyton Resource’s ready-mix concrete business, Allied Concrete, and provides an expanded footprint in the high growth Houston market. Colorado County Sand & Gravel adds a significant sand and gravel operation and valuable reserves to Alleyton Resource’s aggregates business in the west Houston region. Summit Materials acquired Alleyton Resource in January 2014.

Concrete Supply of Topeka/Builders Choice Concrete operates 10 ready-mix concrete plants and two sand and gravel sites in Topeka and northeast Kansas, and a ready-mix concrete plant in western Missouri. It is an excellent fit with Summit Materials’ existing companies in Kansas and Missouri, according to the company.

“We are very pleased to welcome these three companies and their employees to Summit Materials, said Tom Hill, CEO of Summit Materials. “They are a great cultural, geographic and business match with us and a furtherance of our strategy of growth through acquisitions.”
