  • Victory Nickel Inc. finalized its supply contract for washed concentrated sand to be delivered for finish processing at its new Seven Persons frac sand plant (the 7P Plant) near Medicine Hat, Alberta. The completion of this agreement ensures the availability of the highest quality Jordan formation sand from Wisconsin and also provides Victory Nickel with the opportunity to participate in a joint venture on several properties in Wisconsin and Minnesota guaranteeing it a long-term supply of sand, the company said.
  • Speakers from across the country will be featured at the Frac Sand Mining Citizens’ Summit on Jan. 18 in Winona, Minn. The event will bring residents from around the region together to share strategies, learn from experts and strengthen the movement against the development of frac sand mining. Topics include frac sand mining’s role in energy extraction, appropriate state regulations and the role of township rights. Featured speakers will include Michael McCawley of the School of Public Health at West Virginia University; Crispin Pierce, director of the Environmental Public Health Program at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; Jennifer Krill, executive director of EarthWorks; and John Linc Stine, commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
  • Trucking company Schneider National Inc. has pulled out of San Antonio, dropping its business of hauling sand for Eagle Ford Shale oilfield service companies. Green Bay, Wis.-based Schneider closed its San Antonio yard at Interstate Highway 37 and Loop 1604 and notified the Texas Workforce Commission it cut 76 positions, mostly drivers. “Like all companies, Schneider National’s business is heavily influenced by demand in the marketplace,” Schneider spokeswoman Janet Bonkowski told the San Antonio Business Journal. “Earlier this year, we decided that the opportunities in the (sand) portion of our energy transportation business are not as strong as anticipated and ceased offering transportation services to this market.”
