Permit Discussion Pulled

According to the York Dispatch, discussion of a proposed expansion of York Building Products’ quarry has been pulled from a York City, Pa., Planning Commission agenda. The company requested to have the matter deferred to the commission’s Nov. 11 meeting, said Jennie Sherry, the city’s planner. York Building Products wants to expand its limestone-mining operation onto 16 acres of land currently zoned residential. The area is located in the northwestern corner of York City.

The company won’t be able to move forward unless city officials agree to change the land’s zoning. Residents of a nearby neighborhood have been vocal about their opposition to the proposal. A primary concern is the potential impact of closer quarry blasts on the structural integrity of their homes.
