Preferred Sands Honored for Environmental Initiatives

Preferred Sands, one of North America’s largest proppant, well logistics and resin technology companies, was awarded the “Environmental Initiative of the Year” award for the Midcontinent region during the 2013 Oil & Gas Awards.

Honored for the development of its proprietary non-phenolic, resin-coating sand (RCS) technologies, Garnet and Pearl, Preferred Sands is the first company to provide sustainable resin-coated sand options for the oil and gas industry.

Developed in conjunction with The Dow Chemical Co., Garnet and Pearl are part of the Preferred RCS product line, which consists of the first high-performing, non-phenolic alternatives available to the oil and gas market. These specialty proppants, which are more environmentally-conscious compared to traditional, phenolic-based resins, have successfully spurred greater industry demand for sustainable products and are quickly becoming the industry standard.

“We are dedicated to developing and distributing innovative technologies that benefit both drillers and the communities in which they operate,” said Michael O’Neill, founder and CEO, Preferred Sands. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Oil & Gas Awards for our commitment to providing the best, most innovative products and services possible in a way that is sustainable and environmentally sound for our planet. We are seeing companies shift toward more sustainable operational strategies and Preferred is proud to be at the forefront of this change.”

The Oil & Gas Awards celebrate the positive contributions to the oil and gas industry in the areas of Health and Safety, Environmental Stewardship and Corporate Responsibility. In its second year, the program received more than 400 entries from around 250 companies across the globe. Winners from the Midcontinent region were announced in a ceremony held on Oct. 29 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Okla.
