Payne & Dolan Buys Vulcan Quarry

A Vulcan Materials quarry in Caledonia, Wis., was sold for $3.2 million to Waukesha, Wis.-based asphalt paving company Payne & Dolan, according to the Journal Times.

Payne & Dolan’s president said the purchase – part of the company’s strategy of owning quarries in areas where it does work – does not change anything for the 11 employees who work at another quarry in the same area.

The purchase includes the entire approximately 150-acre quarry, including half of a former quarry pit that is now a pond.

Asked about the sale of the Caledonia quarry, Vulcan spokesman Joshua Robbins in a written statement said the transaction was part of Vulcan’s ongoing review to identify nonstrategic assets. Vulcan’s Franklin, Dousman, Oshkosh and Sussex operations were also sold earlier this year.

Payne & Dolan President Mark Filmanowicz said he could not disclose details about the transaction. But Filmanowicz said Payne & Dolan owns several other quarries and gravel pits.
