Carmeuse Operation Hosts Physically Challenged Students

On June 6, Carmeuse Lime & Stone's Winchester operation in Clear Brook, Va., held a field trip for 12 middle school and high school students from the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind based in Romney, W.Va. The children were joined by faculty and staff, including translators and aids from the school.

The visit was led and organized by Plant Electrician Justin Whitacre. Quarry Manager Michael Wilmoth and Process Manager Logan Thompson also provided support during the field trip.

To start the day, students were given a short presentation about Carmeuse and the products the plant makes. Shortly after, students were able to climb in and take pictures on the large loader and truck used for stone hauling. Visitors then had the opportunity to tour the quarry and the main kiln control room to understand how raw limestone transforms into lime.

Carmeuse Lime & Stone is staffed by up to 2,000 employees throughout 28 production facilities in eastern United States and Canada, with North America operations headquartered in Pittsburgh.
