Dodge Momentum Index Descends in July

The Dodge Momentum Index retreated 4.6% in July to 138.9 (2000=100), down from the revised June reading of 145.6. The Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Data & Analytics, is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.

New Home Sales Rebound in June; Affordability Concerns Persist

Sales of newly built, single-family homes increased 7% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 646,000 units in June from a downwardly revised reading in May, according to newly released data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau. On a year-to-date basis, new home sales for 2019 are 2.2% higher than the same period in 2018.

MSHA Reports 11th Fatality

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reported that on Wednesday, July 17, a 32-year-old general manager/owner was killed when he was struck by a hydraulic breaker.

U.S. DOT Announces $856 Million in INFRA Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced $855,950,000 in proposed grants through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) discretionary grant program.
