Saint Index: A Quarry Ranks Among Most-Unwanted Local Projects

Nearly 60 percent of Americans say they would oppose a new aggregate quarry project in their hometown, making it the third most-unwanted type of local development project, the 2011 Saint Index survey found.

USGS: Production Drops in Second Quarter

An estimated 535 million metric tons (Mt) of total construction aggregates was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the second quarter of 2011, according to USGS Crushed Stone Commodity Specialist Jason Willett.

Aggregate Industries' Michigan Plants Receive Safety Awards

Aggregate Industries U.S. (AIUS), a member of the Holcim Group, announced that several of its Michigan facilities have received the Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) 2010 Safety Award for outstanding safety records.

August Construction Climbs 8 percent

At a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $424.7 billion, new construction starts in August advanced 8 percent, according to McGraw-Hill Construction, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies. The gain followed a 10 percent decline in July, and continued the fluctuating pattern that’s been present in recent months.
