Center for Mining Safety and Health Excellence Formed

The Utah State Board of Regents has just approved a new Center for Mining Safety and Health Excellence at the University of Utah. The formation of the center goes back to 2008 after the fatal Crandall Canyon accident in eastern Utah.

Rental Revenue to Top $38 Billion in 2013

The equipment rental industry in the United States is expected to generate $33.6 billion in revenue in 2013, according to the American Rental Association’s (ARA) latest forecast from the ARA Rental Market Monitor updated in May. This figure represents a 7.3 percent increase over 2012 with revenue growth reaching 7.9 percent in the fourth quarter according to the latest quarterly forecast.

April Construction Slips One Percent

New construction starts in April settled back 1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $473.0 billion, according to McGraw Hill Construction, a division of McGraw Hill Financial. The public works sector retreated from its elevated pace in March, and housing experienced a slight loss of momentum. Highway and bridge construction in April retreated 25 percent.

MDU Resources Names Vice President

MDU Resources Group announced that Dennis L. Haider was named executive vice president of business development, effective June 1.
